Not quite Termites but just as destructive.
What Do They Look Like?: Carpenter ants are among the largest ants in the United States, ranging from 3.4 to 13 mm long. The most common color is black, but some species have reddish or yellowish coloration. Some ants exhibit both red and black coloration.
Where To Find Them: In natural environments, Carpenter Ants will nest in both dead and living trees, stumps and rotting logs. However, they may also establish their nests inside of homes where wood is found, especially where wood has been exposed moisture.
What Do They Eat?: Despite what it may seem, Carpenter Ants do NOT eat wood. Rather, they remove the wood and leave the debris outside the nest. Much like other Ants, they eat leftover human foods and other insects.
